by Precious Stevens on March 08, 2022

Let's talk about how to attract high-paying clients.

Black, white, and gold Back Drop for high-paying clients So, you wanna attract high-paying clients? Well, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. It’s not enough to just know HOW to design in this industry. Surprised? I know you heard the saying that it’s not WHAT you know, it’s WHO you know, right? Well, that couldn’t be more true when it comes to working with high-paying clients. I’m going to let you in on a little something you need to know when it comes to attracting high-paying clients that some of these other so-called “experts” probably won’t tell you. I guarantee that it’s going to change your perspective on how you’re running your premium draping business. Forewarning: I’m about to ruffle some feathers. BUT… I have to give you the real because that’s what you come to The Draping Queen for.

Your high-paying clients are not bug-a-boos.

Your high-paying clients are NOT the ones asking for discounts, sis. They aren’t trying to pry you for all the information, and they’re not the ones trying to sweat you for every nickel and dime you own. Hye, I’m not the bad guy. I’m just speaking facts. Your best, high-paying clients will not be a pain to work with. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Because they are paying that kind of money, they’re trusting you to be the expert. If you're the expert, you’re supposed to know what to do and let them take a step back. Sooooo if your high-paying clients aren’t who I was just describing…who are they?

Your high-paying clients are busy, busy people.

They’re probably so busy that they can’t even find you. Think about it. Generally speaking, how can someone afford a $2,000 backdrop unless they’re already making money that kind of money? $2k ain’t cheap, and it has to come from SOMEWHERE. Don’t get me wrong. I knowww there may be people who can somehow afford $2k designs making minimum wage. More than likely…. they are living beyond their means. I ain’t mad at the hustle; do your thing. However, if we’re speaking about MOST high-paying clients, they’re not going to be on social media all day every day, which is where most people THINK they’re going to find their million-dollar client.

Your high-paying clients are going to be C-suite executives, senior professionals, business owners, celebrities…you get me?

Now that you KNOW this…how can you ATTRACT these types of people? I got a couple of tricks up my sleeve, and I’ll go ahead and share one with you right now. You have to LOOK the part. Again, don’t shoot the messenger. I gotta give you the real. I’m not just talking about how you physically present yourself. Grooming is important, but how you present your business is equally important. In other words, you need to LOOK like you got your business together. Seriously though. If you had $2k to use for a premium backdrop, would YOU hire YOURSELF based on your current business presentation? Be honest, sis! Let me get more specific.
  • Do you have a functional website?
  • Do you have brand colors?
  • A logo?
  • A clear process for providing estimates?
  • How can people contact you?
  • What about merchandise?
  • Are you even wearing your logo at an event?
  • Do you have a portfolio?
  • Where is it?
  • Do you have testimonials?
  • How can people quickly vet you without CONTACTING you?
Alllll these are things that someone willing to spend $5k+ is going to be looking for. They gonna hear about you from somewhere, then they will quickly check you out to see if you’re worth contacting. If you look like a rinky-dink, sub-par business who's just throwing up pipe and drape here and there…they are NOT gonna hire you. Point, blank, and period. Baby, you got to LOOK the part if you demanding those types of dollars. No, that you at the end of this article, I got some homework for you.
